potatoslicer

the plain version.

Potatoslicer is open-source software built by Spergs, LLC. By installing or using it you accept these terms. Last updated: 2026-05-27.

who you're agreeing with

"Potatoslicer", "we", and "us" mean Spergs, LLC, a Florida limited liability company. "The software" means the potatoslicer-client Python library and the potatoslicer sequencer application published on PyPI. "The site" means potatoslicer.net.

By installing or using the software, or by browsing the site, you accept these terms and the privacy policy. If you don't, please don't use them.

license

The source code for both packages is released under the Apache License, Version 2.0. The license text is bundled with each package and is the authoritative statement of your rights to copy, modify, and redistribute the code. Nothing on this page reduces what the Apache 2.0 license grants you.

These terms cover the bits the Apache 2.0 license doesn't: how this website behaves, how we expect you to behave, and the disclaimers that go with running pre-1.0 software.

what you can't do

The software runs locally on your machine and the site is static, so there's not much surface for abuse. Don't:

  • Use the software in violation of any applicable law in your jurisdiction or ours.
  • Use rendered audio output in a way that infringes someone else's copyright (e.g. resynthesising and redistributing material you don't have rights to).
  • Misrepresent that a derivative work, port, or modification is the upstream "Potatoslicer" project. Renaming a fork is fine; passing it off as the official build is not.
  • Republish the Spergs, LLC name, logo, or branding to suggest endorsement of a third-party product.
  • Hammer potatoslicer.net with automated traffic in a way that interferes with normal operation.

your install, your responsibility

You're responsible for:

  • Keeping your own song JSON files, layout JSON files, and renders backed up. The software writes to your local disk; we don't have copies.
  • The licensing and rights status of any audio you render or distribute.
  • The Python environment you install into and any system audio libraries the engine depends on.

service availability

Potatoslicer is pre-1.0. We don't offer a service-level agreement, an uptime guarantee, or a support commitment. The PyPI packages may be yanked, renamed, or restructured; the on-disk JSON format may change between versions. Where it matters, we'll write migrators; before 1.0, treat formats as best-effort.

The website is hobby-grade infrastructure. It may go down. We try to publish a status note when it does.

no warranty

The software and the site are provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. This restates the Apache 2.0 warranty disclaimer in plainer language; if there's any conflict, the license text governs.

limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Spergs, LLC and its officers, members, and employees won't be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages (including loss of data, profits, or goodwill) arising out of or in connection with the software or the site, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Some jurisdictions don't allow these limitations; in those, our liability is limited to the greatest extent permitted by local law.

changes to these terms

If we make material changes we'll update the "last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the software or site after a change means you accept it; if you don't, you can stop using them.

governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute that can't be resolved by emailing privacy@spergs.com will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Florida, and you consent to their personal jurisdiction.
