Musical Scales
Choose from 11 scale types with any root key. Highlight scale tones on the piano, or enforce mode to snap every note to the nearest in-scale pitch.
Highlight Mode
The default mode. Scale tones are visually highlighted on the piano keyboard, giving you a reference without restricting your input. Non-scale notes are dimmed but still playable.
- - Piano keys light up for notes in the selected scale
- - Non-scale notes remain accessible — just visually subdued
- - Great for learning scales or keeping a visual reference
- - Scale and key shown in the transport bar and instrument editor
Enforce Mode
When enforce is active, any note you enter is automatically snapped to the nearest scale tone. Toggle it from the transport bar — the button turns amber when active.
- - Entered notes snap to the closest in-scale pitch
- - Toggle between HIGHLIGHT and ENFORCE in the transport bar
- - Enforce button glows amber when active
- - Works with keyboard entry, piano clicks, and MIDI input
- - Prevents accidental out-of-key notes during composition
11 Scale Types

Major
The standard major scale (Ionian). Bright and resolved — the foundation for most Western music.
Minor
Natural minor (Aeolian). Dark and melancholic — the go-to for moody compositions.
Dorian
Minor with a raised 6th. Jazzy and sophisticated — great for funk and fusion.
Mixolydian
Major with a flat 7th. Bluesy and laid-back — perfect for rock and folk.
Phrygian
Minor with a flat 2nd. Spanish and exotic — dramatic tension in one scale.
Lydian
Major with a raised 4th. Dreamy and floating — the sci-fi and film score scale.
Pentatonic Major
Five notes, no tension. Universal and melodic — works over almost anything.
Pentatonic Minor
The blues backbone. Five notes of pure groove — riff-ready from any key.
Blues
Pentatonic minor plus the flat 5th. Adds grit and character to leads and bass.
